Carolyn "Gay" Peters passed away Tuesday, July 3, at the age of 80. She was born in Baton Rouge and was the youngest child of Marvin and Annie McGraw. The McGraws spent most of their family life on Perkins Road in the City Park/Hundred Oaks area. She graduated from LSU where she was a member of Phi Mu sorority. Gay was a 3rd grade teacher spending most of her career at Westdale Elementary. Since her retirement from teaching she remained an active member of East Baton Rouge Parish Retired Teachers. Also, she was a member of the Music Club of Baton Rouge and had a regular seat at First Methodist Church of Baton Rouge. To call Gay Peters a "collector" would understate the situation. She and her friends traveled the South visiting every antique dealer, flea market and garage sale they could find. She had extensive collections of everything from Kentucky Derby glasses to Fiesta pottery. She is preceded in death by parents, Marvin and Annie Jones McGraw, husband, George, and infant daughter, Polly Anna. She is survived by daughters, Jenni Peters and Kristen Peters Manske, a son-in-law, Mike, and granddaughters, Courtney and Madison Mankse; sons Clint and Fritz Peters and wife, Cynthia. Please send any donations in her memory to the charity that means the most to you. She would want you to spread her love around. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street, Baton Rouge on Friday, July 6, from 9-11 a.m. followed by services in the South Chapel at 11. Services will be lead by the Reverend Chris Andrews with a celebration of her spirit in music by friends and family.
