Catherine Martinez

Catherine Martinez, age 92, of Wakefield, died Tuesday at home. She was the wife of the late Joseph D. Martinez, Ph.D. Born in Bridgeport, CT, she was a daughter of the late Matthew and Veronica (Machak) Evanstock. Mrs. Martinez was a 2nd Lt. in the Army during WWII, serving as a Registered Nurse in the European Theatre. She met her late husband during the war. They settled in Louisiana after returning home from the war, and summered in Cape George Nova Scotia. Mrs. Martinez moved to Rhode Island five years ago to be closer to her family. She is survived by two sisters, Cecilia Hanes of Tucson, AZ and Barbara Gombar, of Narragansett; a brother, Rev. Philip Evanstock of Phoenix, AZ; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Rev. Matthew Evanstock and Mary Rassias. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Resthaven Gardens of Memory under the direction of Rabenhorst Funeral Home, Government Street.
