Surrounded by his loving family, Cecil J. Jarreau passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 74 years after a 15 year battle with cancer. Cecil called many "friend" during his lifetime. The family invites you to visitation on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Rabenhorst Funeral Home Downtown, 825 Government Street, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Visitation will continue at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 28, 2016, at University Presbyterian Church, 3240 Dalrymple Ave., Baton Rouge Louisiana followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M. Officiating will be Reverend Patti Synder, Senior Pastor and Reverend Mike Watson, Assistant Pastor. Military interment will be at Louisiana National Cemetery, 303 W. Mount Pleasant Rd., Zachary, LA., under the direction of Rabenhorst Funeral Home. Cecil was born April 22, 1942, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 23, 2016. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Patti Stirrat Jarreau. They were married in a double wedding ceremony at University Presbyterian Church on June 13, 1964. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, Marie O. Jarreau Laborde and Cecil Joseph Jarreau, Sr.; sister, Diane Frances Jarreau Stewart and step- brother, Clyde Laborde; brother-in-law, George Michael Stirrat, Jr.; niece, Johnette Tollett. In addition to his wife, Patti Jarreau, he survived by his sons, Christopher P. Jarreau and daughter-in-law, Beth; Richard M Jarreau and daughter"“in"“law, Anissa; daughter, Bonney Jarreau Wallis and son-in-law, Henry Wallis, Jr.; grandsons, Scott Jarreau, Troy Jarreau, Chandler and Taylor Pastorek; granddaughters, Holly Jarreau, and Emma Jones; brother, Ronald J. Jarreau of St. Amant; stepbrothers, Cecil Laborde and wife, Delores, of Denham Springs and Robert Laborde, MD, and wife, Susan, of Hendersonville, NC; extended family members include Zaylan Wallis, son of Henry Wallis, Jr. and Madelyn Cambre, fiancé of Troy Jarreau. Cecil serviced his country in the US Marine Corps until he was honorably discharged and was a member of the US Navy Club. He was an East Baton Rouge Police Officer before working at Ethyl and Vulcan Chemical Corporations. He retired as Supervisor of Allied Signal. Cecil's mission work, love for his fellow man and dedicated service to University Presbyterian Church is a testimony of the life he lived. Working with the Senior Youth Group at the church, he was a role model and an inspiration to many young people. Cecil stressed the importance of family to his children. Recently returning from the annual family reunion at the beach, the family is comforted to have spent this precious time with their loved one. He instilled the true value of family into everyone that met him. Spending time with family, friends, and Sophie, his devoted "fur baby" dachshund, was Cecil's greatest joy. He loved cooking, especially his famous, award winning jambalaya, relaxing at the camp, and riding in his pontoon boat. He was always willing to help friends and family with anything they needed. Because he touched the lives of so many, His legacy will live in the hearts of others for many generations. He was a selfless man with a kind heart and spirit and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Pallbearers will be Troy Jarreau, Scott Jarreau, Chandler Pastorek, Taylor Pastorek, Brad Prescott and Tyler Prescott. Honorary pallbearers will be Cecil Laborde, Ronald Jarreau, Jeffrey Jarreau, Michael D. Stirrat and Roland Tollett. Memorial contributions may be made to The Hospice of Baton Rouge and Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Deborah Abernathy and Dr. Gerald Barber of Baton Rouge for their medical care and expertise; family friend, Jamie Lynne Niemann, for her generosity and gracious hospitality and to Eunice Gail Young for the heartfelt prayer as Cecil began his eternal life.
