An avid sportsman and hunter, and a lifelong resident of Central, Charles Wilford Dougherty was born Feb. 12, 1927, and passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012. He retired from ExxonMobil in 1986 with 39 years of service. During World War II, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Naval Air Transport division, evacuating our prisoners of war home. Charles received an honorable discharge on Feb. 27, 1947. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Frankie Forbes Dougherty; sons, Kenneth Dougherty and wife Debbie, and Ronald Dougherty and wife Pam; daughter, Sheri Dougherty Davis and husband Eric; nine grandchildren, nine greatgrandchildren, brother, Alvie E. Dougherty Jr.; sister, Earline Spurgeon Noble; and sisterin- law, Evelyn Campbell. Preceding him in death were his son, Larry Charles Dougherty; granddaughter, Casey Nicole Dougherty; parents, Alvie E. Dougherty Sr. and Olive Noble Dougherty; and brother, Gordon Winton Dougherty. Pallbearers will include Cody Dougherty, Eric Davis, Todd Denham, Paul-Michael Fryday, Micah Robinson, Don Ray "Buck" Furr and Julius "Randy" Furr. His honorary pallbearers will include all members of the Charles Dougherty Big Alabama Hunting Club. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., on Thursday, July 19, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation will be held at Zoar Baptist Church on Friday, July 20, from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Zoar Baptist Church cemetery fund.
