Charles W. Dunaway

Charles Wayne Dunaway, age 87 passed away on Monday, February 21, 2022. He was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Born in Bogalusa, Louisiana on September 29, 1934 to the late Thomas “T.C.” and Helen Rebecca Swilley Dunaway.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, and completed a tour in the Korean War. After serving his country, he graduated from Louisiana State University majoring in accounting.

He started his career with Gulf States in Beaumont, Texas. He then came back to Baton Rouge after a few years and took a job with Baton Rouge General Hospital as an account manager, which he truly enjoyed. Charles later purchased Credit Bureau of the South.

He loved sports so he became a football official for high school football and then he became the assignment secretary. He was a member of the Lions Club in Baton Rouge, and was also a sports writer for the Advocate Newspaper-Bowling News.

Charles was a faithful member of Broadmoor Baptist Church.

Charles was well respected in the Baton Rouge community.

He is survived by his beloved daughter, Dawn Suzette Davis (which he called her the apple of his eyes) and her husband, Floyd Davis; his brother, Terry Dunaway and wife Hannah Nguyen Dunaway; his grandson, Charles Wayne Beemer (his name sake) and his wife, Heidi; and his great grandchildren, Roman Charles and Maverick Wayne Beemer; sister in-law, Frances Dunaway; stepson, Phillip Thurmond and his wife, Angela; and step grandchildren, Cody and Jacob Davis. He is preceded in death by his son, Chris Wayne Dunaway; his parents; his granddaughter, Morgan Brittany; his brother, Donnie Ray Dunaway and his first wife, Patty Sue Dunaway; and his second wife, Phyllis Dunaway.

Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, on Thursday, February 24, 2022 from 11 am until funeral service at 1 pm.

A private burial will take place in Greenoaks Memorial Park for the family.
