
Our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Charlie L. Campagna, passed away at the home of his daughter Dr. Joyce Campagna Lambert on Thursday, June 14, 2007, in Metairie. He went to his eternal reward at the age of 95. A native of Donaldsonville, Charlie's family moved to Baton Rouge in 1922. He worked for 70 years: 10 years as deliveryman, with horse and wagon, for the People's Ice Co., and 40 years of service as a supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service on the LSU campus, retiring from there in 1980. While at LSU, he also worked as a guard for various sporting events: football, basketball and rodeos. His last employment was in the copy room of the clerk of court's office downtown, retiring at the age of 88 in 2000 after 20 years of service. Charlie enjoyed bowling, fishing, gardening and playing cards. He was a charter member of the Baton Rouge Stamp Club since 1948 and had an extensive stamp collection. Charlie was a member of the Baton Rouge Eagles Club and was on the 1953 City Championship bowling team. He obtained his G.E.D. at the age of 68. He was previously a parishioner of Sacred Heart and Our Lady of Mercy parishes. Charlie's wife, Angelina, had Alzheimer's, and he lovingly cared for her for several years until her death in 1992. After his second retirement in 2000, Charlie resided in New Orleans with his daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Joyce C. Lambert and Dr. Samuel Joseph Lambert III, until the 17th Street Canal levee broke and flooded their Lakeview home during Hurricane Katrina. Since then, he had lived with his oldest daughter and son-in-law, Sara C. Jacobs and M. Richard Jacobs in Baton Rouge. He resided in Baton Rouge for 80 years. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Sarah Papa Campagna; wife, Angelina LoBianco Campagna; brothers and their spouses, Sam and Aline Campagna, Joseph and Rosa Campagna, Vince and Josie Campagna, and Michael and Zena Campagna; sister, Annie Campagna and her husband, Rock Oliver; and son-in-law, E. Grady Hebert. He is survived by his brother, George Campagna and wife Laura Campagna; three daughters, Sara Campagna Jacobs and husband Mathew Richard Jacobs, Baton Rouge, Charleen Campagna Hebert, Newburgh, Ind., and Dr. Joyce Campagna Lambert and husband Dr. Samuel Joseph Lambert III, New Orleans; 11 grandchildren, Sharon Jacobs, Northridge, Calif., Rachel Jacobs Campbell and husband Robert Campbell, Simi Valley, Calif., Charles Jacobs and wife Yesica Alvarez Jacobs, Canoga Park, Calif., David Ben Jacobs and wife Megan Evans Jacobs, Mesa, Ark., Joseph Ben Jacobs and wife Mirna Repreza Jacobs, Cypress, Texas, Jennifer Jacobs Krause and husband Tim Krause, Morris, Ill., Michelle Hebert Bourgeois and husband Martin Bourgeois III, Bossier City, James Hebert and wife Christin Lott Hebert, Lansing, Mich., Michael Lambert and wife Dr. Simone Frishman Lambert, Vienna, Va., John Lambert and wife Jessica Kravitz Lambert, Redmond, Wash., and Jan Lambert Anderson and husband Brian Anderson, New Orleans; and 14 great-grandchildren, Natalie Shanna, Godley, Ill., Alexander Jacobs, Canoga Park, Torrey, Alanis and George Campbell, all of Simi Valley, Nicole Repreza, Cypress, Kaeli Krause, Morris, Samantha and Sabrina Lambert, both of Vienna, Mary Lillian and Martin Bourgeois IV, both of Bossier City, Andrew Grady Hebert, Lansing, Charles Lambert, Redmond, and Adeline Anderson, New Orleans. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Friday, June 22, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation at St. George Catholic Church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Le Roy Robison Sr., Johnny Ricca Jr., George Campagna Jr., Gerald LoBianco, Charles Jacobs, Michael Lambert and James Hebert. We thank God for his long life.
