
He was a native and resident of Baton Rouge, a retired Exxon Co. USA mechanic with 24 years of service and a former employee of Margot Automotive with 12 years of service. He died at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at his home. He was 79 and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Thursday, April 23, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting resumes in the chapel on Friday from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Garlin Mizell. Burial in Redwood Cemetery, Slaughter. Survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara Turner Farris, of Baton Rouge; three daughters, Lynn Walton and husband Mike, of Prairieville, Wanda Roussell and husband Bob Callegari, of Acworth, Ga., and Kathy Farris, of Pensacola, Fla.; four grandchildren, Shana Pitre and husband Dennis, Justin Walton and wife Heather, and Maci Walton, all of Prairieville, and Kristy Roussell, of Denham Springs and her fiancé, Rhett Blanchard; nine great-grandchildren, Stone, Slayden, Sawyer, Mason, Jordan, Hayden, Christian, Taylor and Ian; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Oscar Farris and Dora Hill Farris; grandson, Charlie Roussell; mother-in-law, Lois Turner; father-in-law, Godfrey Turner; brother, William Farris; and sister, Olivia Hull. Pallbearers will be Mike Walton, Bob Callegari, Justin Walton, Dennis Pitre, Rhett Blanchard, Lonnie Pocorello, Scott Carpenter and Winton Turner. Honorary pallbearer is George Baggett. He was a member of Bethany World Prayer Center and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3693, Gonzales. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge. The family wishes to offer special thanks to Dr. Jay Brooks and the girls at Ochsner Medical Center chemo department, Kelly, Shelli, Pat, Michelle, Daphne, Kelly and Tamika, and also the nurses and staff of St. Joseph Hospice.
