

Reverend Cheryl L. Simmons, a beloved daughter and sister, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014, at the age of 58. She was a Minister with the Virginia United Methodist Conference who served as pastor in seven different churches in Virginia. She was recognized for being the Outstanding Women of America for five different years. She graduated from Bayside High School, Virginia Beach, Virginia, graduated from Louisiana College, Pineville, Louisiana, with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and also earned a Masters of Divinity and Religious Education from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. She is survived by her mother, Betty S. Simmons; sister, Terri S. Cook and husband, John; aunts, Patty S. Hunt and Charlotte C. Smith; and numerous cousins. She is preceded in death by her father, Thomas G. Simmons; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank C. Smith; and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Simmons. She will truly be missed by all that knew her and loved her. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home 9595 Florida Blvd. on Saturday, March 29, 2014, from 12 PM until service at 2 PM conducted by Dr. John Vest and Rev. Oren Conner. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ALS Association P.O.
