

"Clifton William Murphy, a native and resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away December 23, 2017 at the age of 73. He was the beloved husband of Mary McCain Murphy for 50 years and the loving father of Beth M. Pastorick and husband Ken and Claire M. Trahan and husband Jay. Clifton is also survived by his grandchildren, Brady Pastorick, Camden Pastorick, and Alexis Trahan; and by his sister Launo M. Moore and husband John. He was preceded in death by his parents, Launo Langhart Murphy and Solon W. Murphy. Clifton was a graduate of Baton Rouge High School and Southeastern Louisiana University and past president of SLU's Alumni Association, and a past president of the Red Stick Chapter of the Alumni Association. He was a founding member of the SLU Agricultural Gleaner's Club. He was also a parishioner of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3743. He was a founding member of the Bishop Stanley J. Ott Assembly, 2241. He was a Lieutenant in Group 41 Men of Manresa. He retired from the Office of Public Health, and was a member of the Louisiana Public Health Association and a past Louisiana Delegate of the American Public Health Association. He was a member of the Old State Capitol Associates, a board member of Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler, an emeritus board member of Tucumcari, and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He will also be fondly remembered as playing Santa at the Baton Rouge Christmas Festival and the Old State Capitol for the past couple of years. Clifton received many honors over his lifetime. He was recognized by Southeastern Louisiana University as the Outstanding Alumnus of the Year, and he also received the University's Golden Oak Award. He also received the 2009 Volunteer Activist Award, which recognizes exemplary community volunteers. A rosary will be led by the Knights of Columbus at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Stuart Ave., Baton Rouge, LA Thursday, December 28, 2017, at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Visitation which will continue until funeral mass at NOON. He will be laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery, North Blvd, Baton Rouge after Mass. The family requests Memorial Donations to be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, St. Aloysius School, or to the Monks of St. Joseph Abbey, Covington, LA.
