

He led a life that was centered around the love for his family, a firmly anchored faith and his lifelong work ethic. Dan was a 1978 graduate of Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. After college, he became the comptroller of Holsum Bakery in Baton Rouge, going on to serve as the Accounting Supervisor for the University of New Orleans. After this position, he switched careers and went into Information Technology.
As a self-taught IT and computer expert, he began this phase of his life working as the IT Liaison Officer for the Louisiana Department of Education then Manager of IT at Cox Communications where he designed the systems for streaming video. He eventually went back to work for the state at the Louisiana State Employees Retirement System (LASERS) where he retired as the Director of Information Technology. During his tenure at LASERS, he was involved with the Public Retirement Information System Management (PRISM) organization where he served two terms as president.
In Dan's early years, he was a loving uncle to nephews Andrew Sprague and Justin Sprague and niece Holly Sprague Jones. Later in life, Dan met his soulmate Karen Donaldson, and they went on to build a life together centered around faith and family.
A man of deep faith, Dan was baptized at a young age, he was a member of Istrouma Baptist Church and married at Victory Harvest Bible Fellowship. He hosted many home Bible studies which reflected his devotion to spiritual growth and love of his fellow man.
Outside of work and church, Dan found peace through hunting and fishing. Dan will be remembered by his wife of thirty-three years, Karen Donaldson Bowden; his daughter Kathy Donaldson Meek (Patrick), sister Janet Bowden Sprague (Kevin), brother Richard Waymon Bowden, sister Sharon Bowden Lindsey (Robert), granddaughters Brittany Weber Campanella (Michael) and Madeline Meek, grandson Braeden Meek; great-granddaughter Blake Campanella and great-grandson Eli Campanella.
Pall bearers are Andrew Sprague, Justin Sprague, Edward Jones, Patrick Meek, Braeden Meek, and Michael Campanella. Dan was preceded in death by his father Waymon Sims Bowden, Jr. and mother Dorothy Latham Bowden.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to National Kidney Foundation.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70815 on Saturday December 13th, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time. Burial will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
