

Retired Lt. Col. Darrell A. Nope, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 28, 2011, with adoring wife, Jeannine Mount Nope, by his side. High school sweethearts Darrell and Jeannine were blessed to have shared 58 wonderful years together in perfect matrimony. He joins many loved ones in heaven, including oldest daughter, Deborah Lynne Casey; and grandson, Joshua Nope. He leaves behind a son, Darrell W. Nope and wife Suzanna; daughter, Dianna Tanner and husband Mike; grandchildren, Jeremy Theis, Jennifer Bergeron and husband Claude, Ryan Nope, Samantha Tanner, Siobhan Nope, David Baird, and Beth Johnson and husband Lawrence; and great-grandchildren, Austin Bergeron, Julia Bergeron and Addisyn Johnson. He was the son of the late Joseph and Evelyn Nope; and brother to Donald, Wendell and the late Edwin. Darrell was born Oct. 14, 1933, in Lake Charles. He was a 1952 graduate of Granger High School, Darrell graduated summa cum laude from Troy State University in Alabama, honorably served our country for 34 years in the U.S. Air Force, and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. Darrell, a devoted Latter-day Saint, faithfully served in the Baton Rouge Stake Presidency. He also served in the Baton Rouge Temple Presidency. Darrell was employed by the church as facility manager and retired after 10 years. Services will be held at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 10335 Highland Road, Baton Rouge, on Tuesday, May 3, with viewing from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and a funeral service at noon. A military procession and honor service will follow with burial in Greenoaks Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd.
