"David W. Price graduated from Louisiana Tech in 1976 with a degree in Accounting and graduated from LSU Law Center in 1979. He began a career and lifetime of dedication to providing exemplary representation to indigent criminal defendants. David worked at the 19th Judicial District Public Defender's Office for 21 years, where he rose to the position of Assistant Director. David received the President's Commendation for Outstanding Service and Dedication to the Fair Administration of Criminal Justice in 1994 from the Louisiana Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (LACDL) and was also honored with the President's Award for Outstanding Service by LACDL in 1997. Upon leaving the Public Defender's Office in 2002, David received a Commendation for his Outstanding Service bestowed upon him by three different past and present Directors of the Office. David formed a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation, the Baton Rouge Capital Conflict Office, dedicated to defending indigent individuals facing the death penalty. David served honorably as LACDL President in 2005, and received the Sam Dalton Capital Defense Advocacy award in 2011. David had a great compassion for people, and especially the poor, disadvantaged, and marginalized. David gave generously to many, but remained a very private and humble person. His employees, whom he affectionately referred to as "minions," are eternally grateful for the boundless kindness David extended to his work family. He will be greatly missed by his former clients, many who have kept in touch with David over the years. David passed away peacefully Thursday, July 27, 2017, at his home of a heart attack after battling cancer for six months. He is survived by his mother, Mary E. Price; two brothers, Bob Price and his wife, Michelle, and Dick Price and his wife Sonya; nephew, Kevin Price; a niece, Courtney Roberts; and a great-niece, Ava Roberts. David is preceded in death by his father, Robert Edward Price and a brother, Jim Price. A memorial gathering celebrating David's life will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, Tuesday, August 1, 2017, from 11 am until 1 pm. He will be buried at a later date in Tulsa, OK. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Baton Rouge Capital Conflict Office, 525 Florida Street, Suite 310, Baton Rouge, 70801.
