
Dennis D. "Chip" Flynn, 52, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012. Chip was from Baton Rouge, and formerly from Virginia Beach, Va., and Parlin, N.J. He also lived in other areas for more brief periods of time. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife, Sandra "Sandy," of Baton Rouge; son, Christopher Flynn, Hoboken, N.J.; son, Ryan and daughter-in-law Michelle Flynn, of Virginia Beach; daughter, Katryn Flynn, of Parlin; son, Wesley Flynn, also of Parlin; daughters, Beth and son-in-law Dan Hembree, and Cathy and Mary Higginbotham, all of Zachary; along with grandsons, Mason, Asher and Eli. He is also survived by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Dennis D. Flynn Sr., of Richmond, Va., and Jerre Hughes Marietta, of Bella Vista, Ark.; brothers, Sean Flynn and wife Madelin, of Huntington Beach, Calif., Fred Hathaway and wife Beth, of Raleigh, N.C., and Christopher Flynn and wife Mhilet, of Richmond; as well as countless nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Chip served two terms in the Coast Guard, achieving rank of E-6 first class, quartermaster/signalman, programmer/analyst and instructor. He received an honorable discharge in 1985. Following discharge, he was with Citigroup Technology Inc. (previously Salomon Brothers/Smith Barney in New York/New Jersey) for 18 years. His most recent role there was vice president and help desk system administrator. Additionally, he graduated from Medical Training College in Baton Rouge as a massage therapist in July 2010. He was a bass guitar player and avid surfer for most of his life. His artwork has been displayed at the Norfolk, Va., International Airport and Kellam High School in Virginia Beach, which was his alma mater. He served as chairman of the board of trustees for Sayreville United Methodist Church in Sayreville, N.J., and was a member of the Sacred Heart Praise Band, Sacred Heart Church in South Amboy, N.J. He was a member of ATA Black Belt Academy, Parlin, and achieved the rank of brown belt. He was much loved as a son, husband, father, brother, uncle, "GrandChip," friend and hero. Chip will be incredibly missed by family and friends. The family will be receiving family and friends for two memorial services. The first is to be held in Baton Rouge at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Saturday, Jan. 7, with visitation from noon until the memorial service at 2 p.m. The second will be held at St. Giles Presbyterian Church, 5200 Grove Ave., Richmond, Saturday, Jan. 14, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
