In high school the family moved to Taos, NM. This is where she fell in love with the simple majestic small mountain town. Married, Juan and had 2 kids, Johnny and Andrea. Who she would have done anything for. Taught us to be independent and shared her love of music. Teaching life lessons like Andrea- “always have lipstick on”, “put toothpaste on pimples”. Johnny- “get out the road (at 25 years old)” and “call me when you get home, no matter what time”. No matter how many dance recitals or band gigs, she supported her kids.
She is also survived by the love of her life, her granddaughter, Bentley. We all knew our place in line. It was always about Bentley and her YaYa. They will always and continue to have a special unbreakable bond. The love between them is like no other.
The most important thing to Dinah was her family. 1 adored son-in-law, Ty. 3 loving sisters Honey, June and Patty. 2 dedicated brothers, Robert and Michael. 2 sister-in-law’s Phyllis and Allison whom she loved like sisters. 3 brother-in-law’s Woody, Jessie and Gary, which all 3 could make her laugh uncontrollably. Along with many nieces, nephews and their kids. Too many to count. Plus, numerous of cousins. It was all about family. Playing Uno, laughing and dancing on the weekends. Watching all the cousins play loud and waiting to see which one of her kids would get in trouble first.
Mom wasn’t the one to hold her tongue. Never lied, always tell the truth. Whether it was the guy at the pizza restaurant or a lady at the grocery counter. It was known “oh, oh here she comes..” she told it like it was, never lacking a few choice words. That toughness never left. She was the toughest person I know. Through the past years, even stronger.
My family would like to personally thank Old Jefferson Community Care Center and The St. Joseph Carpenter house. Your staff has the hardest job taking care of our loved ones in their time of need. Thank you for your kindness and caring hands.
Her remains will be returned to her favorite place Taos, NM. Sprinkled under a tree overlooking a gorgeous mountain. Forever being a part of its beautiful landscape just as she was.
In lieu of flowers, donate! Donate a bag of dog food to an animal shelter, cans to a food bank, clothes to a thrift store. Dinah was a thrifty person and believed in helping out other when you could. Or even better turn on some good 50’s music and dance. She loved to dance. Because right now my mom is having a slice of pizza with her parents and petting her beloved dogs. Drinking a beer with my uncle Gary and visiting with some old friends. She’s free and at peace. Forever with love our YaYa.
