A native of Hammond and longtime resident of Baton Rouge, Donnie passed away on July 11; he was 91. The ninth of 11 children, he was born January 29, 1931 to Vessie Kirby and Louis David Mauroner. He was a state trooper from 1953 to 1956 but was most proud of his 24 years of service in the U.S. Air Force. He was a decorated veteran, having served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. Upon his retirement from the military he worked as a security officer at Godchaux’s Department Store and for Pinkerton at Exxon Plastics. He spent many years volunteering at St. Gerard Elementary School, and was active in the VFW. He was an avid woodworker, having honed his carpentry skills building houses with his father as a youth and spent many years framing pictures for customers of Rel Art. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Frank, Curtis, Joseph, Norman, Al and Julian (“J.B.”); sisters Dorothy Watts, Mildred Schley, and Elaine Mauroner; and his beloved wife of 65 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Laville Mauroner. He is survived by his children and their families, Jodi and husband Scott Hinton, Louis and wife Donna, and Fred and wife Annick; grandchildren Claire Mauroner Brown and husband Justin, Andrew Mauroner and wife Amanda, and Emma, Aidan and Ava Mauroner; and great grandchildren Lillian and Luke Brown. He is also survived by a sister, Nanette Westbrook, brother-in-law Ralph Dupuy, and a host of nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of the La Veterans Home in Jackson for caring for Donnie for the past 18 months as well as the staff of the Hospice of Baton Rouge and the Butterfly Wing at the Baton Rouge General for making dad’s last days as comfortable and painless as possible.
