
Born May 1, 1937, in Pittsburgh, Pa., Dottie passed away after a brief illness at Old Jefferson Community Care in Baton Rouge on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012. A resident of Baton Rouge for more than 57 years, she touched the lives of many as a loving wife and dedicated mother, daughter and grandmother. A successful insurance agent with Lincoln Financial for more than 37 years, she was also a collector, becoming known as "The Cookie Jar Lady." Dottie was an avid LSU Tigers fan and passionate about her family, including her "four-legged kids," Winston and Benjamin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Helen Senaway; and brother, Paul J. Senaway, Jr. She will be missed by her devoted husband of 57 years, Richard J. Burns; daughter, Paula Burns Thoma; son, Jeffrey Burns and wife Colleen; grandchildren, Stefanie Briggs and husband Brian, Steven Thoma, Kyle Burns and wife Brittany, Paige Burns and fiance Cory Bernard, Michael Thoma and Zachary Burns; and great-grandchildren, Braedon Boze, Brock and Bryce Briggs, Spencer and Peyton Burns, Ava and Mindy Bernard. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Sunday, Aug. 5, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Monday, Aug. 6, from 9 a.m. until service at 10 a.m. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Burns, Steven Thoma, Kyle Burns, Michael Thoma, Zachary Burns and David Simoneaux with honorary pallbearers Todd Thoma and Jim Simoneaux. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ASPCA or Humane Society.
