

Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Teryl Lin Chambers Vincent; her parents, M. Alder and Dorothy McNeil Piper; and her brother, Malcolm Alder Piper.
She is survived by her daughter, Joy Lin Chambers; grandsons, Todd Piper Vincent and Hays Alder Robicheaux; great-grandsons, Chandler Curtis Vincent and Dawson Hays Robicheaux; great-granddaughter, Ella Rose Robicheaux; and sisters, Shirley Piper Lichtenstein (Don), Joan Piper de St Germain (Howard), and Susan Piper Wheeler (Michael).
Joyce’s paternal grandparents were Harry Hutches Piper and Eliza Elvee Bozeman Piper. Her maternal grandparents were William and Georgia McNeil. Her paternal family has lived in Baton Rouge for over five generations.
Extended family was an important part of her life. Joyce loved to travel. Her favorite vacations was her annual trip to Destin, Florida, with her family. She especially enjoyed building sandcastles and riding the waves with her grandchildren. She attended the 1984 World’s Fair in New Orleans and the 1996 Centennial Summer Olympics in Atlanta. She traveled in Europe, the Caribbean and much of the US.
Joyce graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1952. She began her career as a hair stylist co-owning Lindy’s Hair Salon. She later worked for the state of Louisiana for 25 years as an Administrative Assistant for both the Department of Agriculture and the State Fire Marshal office.
She enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening, crafts, and shopping. In her retirement Joyce served as president of the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, and was the president of her book club. She was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church. Spending time with her grandchildren was her greatest pleasure!
Joyce will be remembered as a kind and loving person. She will be dearly missed.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, January 31st from 1PM to 4PM at Rabenhorst Funeral Home on Government St. to celebrate Joyce's life.
