

Edward Gary Hoek, 67, a native of Elizabeth, N.J., and a resident of Baker, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2011. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. Ed grew up in Roselle and Roselle Park, N.J., and graduated from Roselle Park High School. He went on to graduate from Delaware Valley College of Science and Agriculture in chemistry. After graduation, Ed went to work for Uniroyal in New Jersey, then moved to Baton Rouge in 1969 to work for Copolymer, where he was employed for 24 years. Ed went on to work for Albemarle (Ethyl) Corp. until his retirement in 2007. His love was his family and his hobbies included fishing, traveling, the Corvette club and enjoying his retirement. Ed is survived by his wife of 40 years, Brenda Allen Hoek; children, Jason Edward Hoek and wife Tracy Schexnaydre Hoek, Ashley Anne Hoek, and William Christian Hoek and wife Deki Dorji Hoek; grandchildren, Kelsie Rachel Summers and Abigail Marie Hoek; great-grandchild, Cayden Michael Summers; brother, Bill; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, William H. Hoek Sr. and Gertrude Koller Hoek. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Thursday, June 30, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home on Friday, July 1, from 8 a.m. until services at 10 a.m. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. The Rev. Phil Spano will preside over the services. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses on the fourth floor of Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center for the exceptional care they gave Ed. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the local Chapter of the American Cancer Society in Baton Rouge, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Greater Baton Rouge Area Food Bank.
