Passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at 89 years of age. Born November 15, 1924, she was a native and lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, strong in her faith, a loving wife and a caring and involved mother. She and her husband enjoyed an excellent marriage of 62 years. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandson dearly and took great joy in them. She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy and completed two years at LSU. A child during the Great Depression, she became a wife and mother during World War II. She traveled outside of Louisiana for the first time to join her husband at Camp Edwards, MA and then to Camp Gordon Johnson, FL, prior to his deployment overseas. She gave birth to her son while her husband was serving with the U.S. Army in the Pacific as an Amphibious Engineer. She was a true Southern lady and a passionate supporter and advocate for many causes, especially children, education, and those in need. She was a founding member of St. Aloysius Church, and participated in many clubs including the church’s Exercise Class (30 years), Ex Liber Book Club, Rosary Group, Arabian Horse Association of Louisiana, and the Ladies of Lambda Chi, to name a few. She was witty and entertained us and her many friends with numerous stories of her long and eventful life. She enjoyed ‘working in the yard’ (although never considered herself a gardener), cooking and eating good food, and being with her many friends and family. She was a consummate hostess. She is survived by her daughter Dr. Marcia Lynn Hardy, St. Gabriel; her son and daughter-in-law Dr. and Mrs. Donald McCoy (Marilyn Jones) Hardy, Jr.; three grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Christopher (Michael Anne) Hardy, Littleton, CO; Jennifer Lynn Hardy, Valley Village, CA; and Leah Katherine Hardy, Los Angeles, CA; one great-grandson, Michael Christopher Hardy, Littleton, CO; a sister, Mrs. Patricia Hannie; a sister-in-law, Dr. Willene Hardy, a cousin Mrs. Sadie Stockton, all of Baton Rouge; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald McCoy Hardy, Sr.; her parents Mr. and Mrs. J.J. (Bernadette Keller) Copponex; four sisters Mrs. Marjorie (Wally) Wells, Shirley (Barker) Killgore, Bernice Barry, and Mary Ellen (“Noonie”; Farley) Day; one brother, John “Buddy” Copponex, and brother-in-law, Dr. Edward Hardy. Her brother, Frederick Copponex, also passed away on Sunday. Pallbearers will be Donald M. Hardy, Jr., Donald Christopher Hardy, Kim G. Mayhall, Ray Brent, Col. Gary Keyser and Bart Copponex. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. James Hannie and Noah “Buddy” Berthelot. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Roslyn Tabor, Sunrise at Siegen, and Home Instead for their compassionate care during her last months. Visitation on Friday, August 22 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at St. Aloysius Church, Stuart Blvd, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment at Green Oaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, TN.
