
"Elizabeth Anne Hawkins Millican of Gold River, California, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2016. She was born to the late Emmett E. Hawkins and Lela Lois Gurney Hawkins in Natchitoches, Louisiana on March 30, 1929. Bettye graduated from Northwestern State College of Louisiana (now Northwestern State University) in 1949 after receiving a B.A. in Business Administration and a minor in art. She was a member of Theta Epsilon Sorority while at NSU and went on to work in the Louisiana State Legislature in Baton Rouge and later taught business courses at the Louisiana Trade School in Winnsboro, Louisiana. In 1953, Bettye Hawkins married Joseph (Joe) Franklin Millican, Jr. of Deerford, Louisiana in the First United Methodist Church of Vicksburg, Mississippi. As the spouse of an Air Force officer, Bettye spent more than twenty years traveling and raising their two children while residing in many states across the U.S. and several foreign countries including Germany, England, Iran, and Singapore. Bettye enjoyed traveling, painting, and spending time with her children, Marcia and Marc, and granddaughter, Danielle. Bettye and her husband, Joe, enjoyed over sixty- three years of marriage. Bettye is survived by her husband, Joseph (Joe) Millican, Jr. who resides in Gold River, California, her son, Marc J. Millican of Anchorage, Alaska, and her granddaughter, Danielle E. Dubetz of Nashville, Tennessee. She is preceded in death by her parents, Emmett E. Hawkins and Lela Gurney Hawkins of Natchitoches, Louisiana and her daughter, Marcia E. Millican of Lanexa, Virginia. There will be a graveside service held on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 11:00am at Roselawn Cemetery in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
