

"Beloved wife, mother and homemaker. Elsie H. Bates native and resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana passed away peacefully in her Assisted Living home at Southside Gardens Retirement Community on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at the age of 97 surrounded by her children and loved ones. Elsie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph P. Bates; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Honore' Sr.; her siblings, Harvey Honore' and Ceola Marcelle; her daughters, Joyce M. Porche' and Lillian M. Davis; her son, Joseph G. Bates; her great grandchildren, Ashton Coleman and Jordan M. Espadron. Elsie was a God loving devout Catholic all through her life and active Parishioner in many church parishes across the Baton Rouge area. She dedicated herself to caring for elderly and sick family members at a very early age, caring for elderly aunts as well as her mother, father, mother in-law, daughter and husband through their transition of life. She is survived by six remaining children, Elsie Gibson, Sharon Hall and Terry, Dennis Bates and Theresa Bowers, Michael and Tasha Bates, Monica White, Rhonda Moore and Byron and son in-law, Earl Davis; three brothers, Marshall Honore' Jr., Charles Honore' and Tom Honore'; three sister in-laws, Jane Honore', Jan Honore' and Betty Honore'. She also leaves behind twenty-one grandchildren, sixty-three great grandchildren, eleven great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. The family would like to express our gratitude to the wonderful care-givers at Southside Gardens Center as well as Hospice of Baton Rouge for their wonderful care! Visitation will be held on Friday, June 22nd at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 749 East Blvd. from 8:30 AM until 10:00 AM, with a Rosary service at 9:30 AM and a Mass at 10:00 AM, to be conducted by Fr. Anthony (Tony) Russo and Deacon Tommy Traylor. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
