It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elton Ray Rusk, who departed this life peacefully on March 31, 2025, at the age of 85. Elton was born on December 20, 1939, in Simmesport, Louisiana, fifth out of six children to Thomas and Ruby Rusk.
Elton was preceded in death by Patricia, his loving wife of 51 years, son Jeffery Lane, brothers Edwin, Thomas, and Henry, along with older sister Grace. He is survived by his younger sister Marie, his son Randy and his wife Sandra along with his partner, Karen, of the past six years. He was a proud grandfather to two grandchildren, Kimberly Marie and Jessica Ann along with one great grandson Beckett Wayne.
Elton’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family will never be forgotten.
Words cannot express the depth of sorrow and emptiness we feel since Elton’s passing. He was not just a father, but a husband, son, uncle, brother, grandpa and great grandpa. For his children he was a guiding light, a source of strength, and a constant reminder of what it means to be a good person. His love, kindness, and wisdom touched the lives of everyone around him, and his absence is deeply felt. He taught us the value of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of family. His unwavering support and belief in us gave us the confidence to chase our dreams and never give up. He was a not a perfect man, as most of us in this world are not, however he always did his best and what he believed to be the right thing. Through adversity and pain, he was by his wife’s side day and night during the most difficult time of her life until her passing. He always led by example and showed us the importance of honesty and compassion.
Though we mourn his loss, we also celebrate the incredible life he lived. We will always remember the times we spent together, the laughter we enjoyed, and the love we felt. His spirit will forever be a part of us, guiding us through life's challenges and reminding us to cherish every moment. We find solace in knowing that he is now at peace, watching over us from above with his wife and son. A visitation for Elton will be held Thursday, April 3, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70815, followed by a celebration of life from 2:00pm.
