"Uncle" E.C. was one-of-a-kind, that is for sure.  I have many wonderful memories of him and Aunt Rosalie and all my cousins from my childhood. 
 My sister and I stayed with Uncle E.C. many times over the years and we were always welcomed.  His daughter Sally Rose and I were very close and I always enjoyed staying with Uncle E.C.  
My Mother (E.C.'s cousin) and my Father really liked E.C. and enjoyed him so much.  I know I found my life-long love of dancing from my Mom and Uncle E.C.
The last time I had the opportunity to see Uncle E.C., it was after I had not been in LA for years, but I was welcomed into the fold just like I had never left.  I remember we had a whopping table of crawfish and the dancing started!
I hold my memories of Uncle E.C. and his family as some of my favorite memories of childhood.  I have always been proud to have "Cajun Cousins" in LA.

I was sorry that I was unable to attend Mr. Howard's funeral.  I had oral surgery Thursday. I liked Mr. Howard  a lot.  We had the same interest in several things.  We both liked to garden and we liked to cook.  I still smoke my Thanksgiving turkeys like he told me thirty something years ago. He told me about the days at military school in Natchez.  I will always have fond memories of him.

He was Uncle EC to me, although we were second cousins. My Mom Clarion Lorraine was his first cousin. When they were young they both lived in Bogalusa, LA and were very close. They loved to dance together to the cajun rhythms, better known together when they were dancing the jitterbug! Even years later, boy could those two cut the rug, I remember watching them when we visited in Baton Rouge as a child. Always good and fond memories visiting, always greeted us with open arms, lots of love, hugs and plenty of laughs. I remember he had his business behind his house, we'd stop by to see him and he'd get us a coke from the machine and tell us a story or two. Then he'd say you kids get out of here now, got work to do. His son Carey and I would  take off  on the horses and ride for hours. My Aunt Rosalie would prepare a feast of food. I always loved when they would have a shrimp boil and crawfish, music and dancing, let the good times roll. My Dad, Bob and him were friends, they would drink beer, BS and laugh half the night away. Later in years they still visited one another either in LA or TX, never lost their sense of humor. Even though I haven't seen him in years, I have always held a special place in my heart for him and always will. My cousins, Sharon, Sally, Carey and Billy I'm so sorry for your loss and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your families. Love, Donna Lynne

Over the years I have enjoyed the many stories of war and survival by Mr. Howard.  Some made me laugh, most made me stand in amazement but all of them made me appreciate his bravery and service to our country and his fight for our freedom!!!!

He has been an incredible inspiration to me in his work ethic and his tenacity to get up and come to work everyday until the age of 92.  That is something to admire and look up too. I am thankful to have witnessed it and to be a part of the Red Stick family.

You will be greatly missed, Mr. Howard!

I joined the family of RSAW in 2011.  I consider it a blessing to have known Mr. EC.  I always enjoyed listening to his stories about himself and his personality perspective on his earlier years. I will miss that!
Mr. EC....a dynamo with passion (that his family was blessed to inherit.)  A man that stood his ground.  A man that protected his country and built a legacy.  Mr. EC (Extraordinary Charisma)
I looked at Mr. EC as a grandfather figure.  A man to be admired and loved.  Mr. EC will always be carried in my heart.

We will all miss you so much Mr. Howard.  You were always so much fun to be around.  Rest in peace my buddy.

Mr. E.C. Howard was a one-of-a-kind,  iconic, true American patriot. He shared many of his life, business and military memories with me and I will cherish them as a gift.  The one memory he shared that I cherish the most involved his deployment to Hawaii just a short time before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He was definitely watched over by a higher power as he had defied death on several military accounts. I told him it must have been the most difficult job being on ships as they were being bombarded by torpedoes.  He said, "No, Angel. The worst job I ever had was returning to Pearl Harbor alive and feeling guilty as we prepared thousands of graves, located and buried those soldiers who had been killed." One day I may have had misty eyes but the next day he would have me smiling.  Every day with Mr. Howard was a unique adventure as I relived his life through his vivid stories. Thank you to the entire Howard family for sharing Mr. EC with us. -Loved this guy.

I came into this family 9 months ago as a caregiver to Mr Howard(dad) and I can't express to everyone the pleasure I got to spend the time I got to spend with him! He kept me on my toes all times that's for sure! Missing him will be a understatement!!! I got to hold his hand while he took his last breath as his daughter Sharon did too!! I will miss my LA family! Much love to my Howard family! Shauna
