A local business owner, a retiree of Kaiser Aluminum and an avid pilot and drag car racer in his earlier years, he departed this Earth on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, surrounded by his family and friends. He was 74, a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Magee, Miss. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Tuesday, Jan. 22, was from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home chapel on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until religious service at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Kenny Cutrer of Victory Harvest Church. Interment in Rials Creek Cemetery, Mendenhall, Miss., under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home, Magee, Miss. Survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia Milligan Brooks; daughter, Tracy Brooks; two sons, Michael E. Brooks and Timothy D. Brooks and wife Rhonda, of Baton Rouge; granddaughter, Kristy Brooks Smith and husband Adrian, of Little Rock, Ark.; two grandsons, Chad E. Brooks and wife Candi, of Baton Rouge, and Jeremy Bercegeay and wife Brooke, of Prairieville; great-granddaughter, Jordan Brooks; great-grandson, Ashton Smith, of Little Rock; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Evan E. Brooks and Ruth Mangum Brooks; granddaughter, Michelle L. Brooks; paternal grandparents, Clarence and Leather Brooks; and maternal grandparents, Willoby Mangum and Ruth Kennedy Mangum Bird. Pallbearers will be Chad Brooks, Stanley Prestwood, Billy Brooks Kennedy, Mike Dunn, Jeremy Bercegeay, Mark Corona and Henry DeVaul. Honorary pallbearers are Brian Mullens, Marvin Henderson, Clark Gaudin, Bob Knight, Dale Henderson, Gerald Vincent and W.C. Lee. The family wishes to express a special thanks to Hospice of Baton Rouge for their special support and care, especially Diana and Dr. DeJesus, and to all our good friends who visited and helped to keep our spirits up.
