
A retired employee of Ethyl Corp. with 37 years of service and a resident of Denham Springs, he died at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at the Ochsner Medical Center of Baton Rouge. He was 83, a native of Baton Rouge and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Thursday, June 5, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home chapel on Friday from 1 p.m. until religious service at 3 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Terry Workman. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Survived by two daughters, Frances Efferson Berry and her husband, Don, and Donna Efferson Dearman; two sons, Howard D. Efferson and his wife, Wanda, and James E. Efferson and partner, Robert Ransom Odom; sisters, Helen Theophilus and her husband, Albert "Buddy," and Peggy Love; brother, Carl M. Efferson; five grandchildren, Steven M. Berry, Douglas W. Dearman, Jeramie R. Dearman, Lisa Gonzalez and Jason Efferson; and eight great-grandchildren. Dudley was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Irene McLean Efferson; daughter, Shirley Mae Efferson; and brothers, Cline Elmo, Otto and Clifton Tate Efferson. Pallbearers will be Douglas Dearman, Jeramie Dearman, Steven Berry, Jason Efferson, Richard Efferson and Blaine Efferson. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Zachary Taylor Post 3784 and American Legion Nicholson Post 38. He loved hunting, fishing and gardening.
