

Rand, born on March 12, 1928 on Bayou Beouf between Lecompte and Cheneyville, LA to Newton and Ora Guy, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at the age of 85. He was raised on Leland Plantation and graduated Lecompte High in 1945. After High School, he worked for A.M. Lockett Co. for 3yrs., and on the Rex Brown Power Station job in Jackson, MS he met and married his wife, Dorothy Hope Guy, on September 2, 1950. Shortly afterward, he went into the US Army for 2 years. Upon his release, he returned to L.S.U. where he received his Bachelor degree in Business Administration in 1955 and went to work in New Orleans for Shell Oil Co. for 4 years. He then returned to Baton Rouge for a career with Construction Materials Inc. where he retired as secretary and treasurer 25 years later. In 1986 upon the advice of his friend, Bro. Ross Whetstone, Guy entered into the Local Pastor Program of the United Methodist Church. His first appointment was Day’s Church, then Pine Grove and Nesom Memorial, thirdly: Springfield, Huff Chapel and Maurepas. Rand was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be missed dearly by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Guy; two daughters, Patricia Guy Beard and husband Richard, and Barbara Guy Montagnino and husband Gordy; two sons, Ernest Rand “Randy” Guy Jr. and wife Tootie Melancon Guy of Bossier City, and Larry Newton Guy and wife Belinda Littlefield Guy; grandchildren, Buddy Beard and wife Shannon, Brad Beard, Stacy Harlow and husband Michael, Boyd Guy and wife Tara, Ella Claire Guy, Chase Guy and wife Erin, Landon Lee Guy, Larry Preston Guy, Jami Montagnino Johnson and husband Morgan, and Jodi Montagnino; great grandchildren, Mackenzie Beard, Kendall Beard, Steven Harlow, Patricia Lynn Harlow, Sara Claire Guy, Judah Sharpton, and Remy Sharpton; and sisters, Mary Weigers and husband Rollie of Scottsdale AZ, Elizabeth “Libby” Guy, and Leigh Beauregard and husband Gerald. He is preceded in death by his parents, Newton and Ora Guy; and sister, Faye Rossknecht. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 from 6pm until 9pm and resume on Thursday, January 23, 2014 from 11 am until religious service at 2pm conducted by his old friend, Dr. Jere Melilli and his grandson, Boyd Guy. King Barber will be singing, and Jody Mayeux will be playing one of Rand’s favorite guitar arrangements, the Wildwood Flower.
