
Esther S. Daigle died at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, at Ollie Steele Burden Manor. She was 87, born on June 18, 1921, a native of Smoke Bend and a former resident of St. Gabriel. Visiting at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, St. Gabriel, on Monday, Jan. 19, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with Monsignor Gerald LeFebvre, celebrant. She retired from the USPHS National Hansen Disease Center at Carville where she was employed for more than 30 years. Survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Bennie and Fran, of Covington, and Randy and Ellen, of Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Lucille S. and husband Bill Blair, of Geismar; four grandchildren, Kim and husband Tom Garcia, of Greensboro, N.C., Amy Daigle, of West Monroe, and Allison and Christen Daigle, both of Tampa; and a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Garcia, of Greensboro. Preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Daigle; parents, Clebert "Buck" and Lee Bertha Sanchez; a sister, Ura Mae Daigle; and three brothers, Hubert Sanders, Floyd Sr. and Bert C. Sanchez Sr. She was a member of the Secular Franciscan Order, Catholic Daughters and the St. Gabriel Altar Society.
