Ethel was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on June 20, 1953, to Myrtie Mae and Robert Shanks. She graduated from Central High School and Louisiana State University. During her life, she wore many hats, but no job was more important to her than that of a wife and mother. She believed strongly in her marriage vows and was a loving and committed wife to her husband Bruce for 48 years. A beloved mother, she will always be remembered for the laughs, fun, and strength that she displayed.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Bruce Haik, daughter Elizabeth Haik-Busquet, son-in-law John Busquet, a host of loving nieces, nephews, great nephews, cousins, and friends, and her dog Pepper, who brought much joy to her. She is predeceased in death by her mother Myrtie Mae, father Robert Shanks, brother-in-law Mark Haik, sister-in-law Paula Haik and granddaughter Izzy Busquet. The family would like to thank the nurses and therapists at Centerwell Home Health for caring for Ethel for a number of years.
Public visitation is scheduled for Monday, September 18th, 2023, at St. Alphonsus Church from 10:30 am - 12:00pm with a private funeral for immediate family members to immediately follow.
