Fannie Elaine Brock Bordelon departed this Earth April 23 at the age of 91. She was born on April 6, 1931 to Eric and Ruth Brock in Tylertown, Mississippi. They, along with younger brother Rodney Lee “Red” Brock, eked out a living on the family farm where Fannie and her brother always made time to dote on their pets. In her teens, Fannie was sent away summers earn money for the family - first in Birmingham and later in Norco. While working in Norco, she met her future husband, Louis Bordelon, recently returned from a tour of the South Pacific.
Fannie was an outstanding pupil, studying by the light of a coal oil lantern at night. Despite working long hours on the farm, often missing school for weeks to help with fall harvest, she graduated valedictorian of her senior class at Lexie School.
After graduation, she and Louis married in December, 1949, and moved to Baton Rouge where opportunities were more plentiful. She worked at the LSU Dairy Improvement Center until she welcomed her first son into the world. She returned to LSU after her second son started school several years later. After moving from the hamlet of Hope Villa to Baton Rouge proper, Fannie started working for the East Baton Rouge Parish School System as a bus driver, a job she held for 25 years.
Blessed with a green thumb, Fannie always had a vegetable garden, as well as fruit and flowering trees throughout the yard.
Fannie is survived by her two sons, Louis E “Mike” Bordelon (Joy) and James S “Jim” Bordelon (Pam); three step-grandchildren, Michael, David and Thomas Kennon; and three great-grandchildren, TJ, Sofia and Alex Kennon. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Louis and brother Rodney Lee.
Visitation is at Greenoaks Memorial Funeral Home April 30 from 10 a.m. to noon, with services immediately following. Burial will take place, per her explicit instructions, at the Tylertown Cemetery, Tylertown, Mississippi. Pallbearers are Michael, David and Thomas Kennon, Mark Monistere, nephew Bill Brock and son Jim. Honorary pallbearers are TJ and Alex Kennon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Fannie’s favorite charity, Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home, or the charity of your choice. A special thank you everyone at The Claiborne (Baton Rouge) and the Hospice of Baton Rouge for the care and comfort they provided to Fannie.
