At the distinguished age of eighty-four, our beloved F. L., peacefully completed his circle of life on Friday, January 16, 2026, at his daughter’s home. F. L. lived a full and meaningful life, a precious gift of hope, strength, and grace, as someone who made the world brighter and better for those who knew him. He made a lasting difference in the lives of many, and he will be fondly remembered.
F. L. Stewart, a native of Woodville, Mississippi, was born on July 20, 1941, to the late Willie and Odessa Stewart. The Stewart family relocated to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, when F.L. was a child, and F.L. was baptized at an early age into the Baptist faith.
In 1967, F. L. was united in Holy Matrimony to Audrey Jean Reed, whom he met in college. Their union spanned 58 years and was blessed with one daughter, Dr. Kimberly Michelle Stewart Davis. F. L. was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He always made time for his family, had a great sense of humor, and had a big heart.
Worshipping as a family was extremely important to F.L. As an adult, he converted to Catholicism and became a faithful and active member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Until his health failed him, F.L. was a devoted member of the 10:30A.M. Choir and Male Chorus, a member of the Knights of Peter Claver (3rd and 4th Degree Divisions), and assisted with the Junior Knights of Peter Claver. He also volunteered his time to make the yearly Lenten Fish Fry a success. F. L. served his Savior and church community with dedication and humility.
F. L.’s educational journey included high school years at Capitol High School and collegiate years at both Grambling State University and Southern University and Agriculture and Mechanical College. While at Capitol High School, he excelled in football, basketball, and track, and was awarded and accepted a basketball scholarship to Grambling State University. After sustaining a career-ending injury during basketball practice his freshman year, he transferred to Southern University. He graduated in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Arts and Mathematics.
As a Telecommunications System Installer, F. L. dedicated more than 30 years of service to Western Electric/AT&T and retired as a faithful employee.
An avid golfer, F. L. was a proud member of the Capital City Golf Association. He also loved tennis and football. He served his community as a volunteer head coach for the BREC Eden Park Chargers football team for several years and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play competitive tennis.
Memories with F.L. will forever be treasured by his wife, Audrey Reed Stewart; daughter, Dr. Kimberly M. Stewart Davis (E’Vinski); grandson, Ethan L. Davis; granddaughter, Audrey M. Davis; sister, Sarah Thompson (Curtis); three sisters-in-law,
Cheryl F. Stewart, Carolyn Prewitt, and Myrtis Reed; two brothers-in-law, Frederic Reed, and Raphew T. Reed, Sr. (Bobbie) all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Odessa Stewart; brothers, Severe, Oliver, Theodore, and Elgin Stewart; and sisters, Cherry, Rosetta, Mary Stewart, and Jessie Harris.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation which will held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, from 8:00AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 3912 Gus Young Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70802. A Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 9:15AM. Burial will follow Mass at Roselawn Memorial Park in Baton Rouge.
