

Frances “Fran” Bendsen Kane, a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, passed away Monday, January 2, 2012 at the age of 72 at the Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice of Baton Rouge. She was surrounded by loving family and close friends. She was born February 23, 1939 in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of Eleanor Ford Bendsen and Bernard Bendsen, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband John Francis Kane; brothers Bernard, John and Thomas Bendsen and sisters Regina Weber and Bernice Begley. She is survived by her daughter, Renee Francine Kane; sisters Eleanor Weber and Irene “Renee” Bendsen and special cousins Robert “Bob” Kane and Sherrie Kane. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and actively involved with the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW). The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff at Carpenter House, particularly Trygve and Dr. Daigle, who cared for her so gently in her final hours. Fran will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 6, 2012 at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd. from 5pm to 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church at 10am on Saturday, January 7, 2012. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge, 550 Lobdell Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70806 or at www.cancerservices.org.
