Corinne K. Lemoine, born July 22, 1928, to Gabriel and Lizette Keller, passed away peacefully at her residence in Baton Rouge on Sunday, January 5, 2025. She was 96 years old and a native of Baton Rouge.
Corinne is survived by her six children: daughters Winifred Stuart (Johnny), Alcia Plaisance (Randall), Anne Lemoine, Michelle Kiefer (Michael), and Nancy Ellis (John), as well as her son Sanford “Sandy” Lemoine Jr. She was also the cherished grandmother of 13, and great-grandmother of 22. She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Sanford Lemoine Sr.; her parents, Gabriel and Lizette Pourciau Keller; and her sister, Ruth Keller Nesom.
Corinne spent her formative years on a small French-speaking farm in St. James Parish, where she was surrounded by the love of her grandparents, aunts, and uncles. She graduated from St. James High School in 1945, where she was active in the band and sports. She went on to attend Our Lady of the Lake School of Nursing, graduating as a registered nurse in 1948. During her time as a nurse, Corinne caught the eye of a young man who after their first date declared to his best friend, “I’m going to marry that girl.” True to his word, they wed in May 1949 and built a beautiful life together. The couple were among the founding members of the newly established Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, where they remained devoted parishioners throughout their marriage. As their children grew older, Corinne resumed her career as a dedicated and compassionate nurse.
She was equally devoted to her family, offering steadfast love, guidance, and faith. She was a constant prayer warrior - often her children and grandchildren would call requesting “Maw Maw prayers” to spiritually pull them across the finish line of difficult school exams and life’s challenges. Everyone knew her prayers had power with God, as countless rosaries left her faithful lips and hands. Corinne’s creativity shone through her painted holiday ceramics, which became treasured gifts for her family. Each year, she poured her heart into creating these beautiful keepsakes, ensuring they were ready to bring joy at Christmastime.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Brian Plaisance, Philip Plaisance, Sanford Lemoine III, Seth Lemoine, Stephen Porter, Thomas Kiefer, and Joseph Ellis.
Services will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Baton Rouge on Tuesday, January 14. Visitation at 8:30 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Corinne’s care team for their compassionate support, especially Misty Baker, Melissa Hunt, the Heart of Hospice team, and Sandy Mapes, who lovingly styled her hair for many years. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Corinne’s favorites were St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School.
