Fred James Hebert

Fred James Hebert Jr., 93, passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, at Cypress Glen Retirement Community, Greenville, N.C. Mr. Hebert was born in Oil City and the son of the late Fred James Hebert Sr. and Lorena Garres Hebert. Following graduation from Bossier City High School, Fred attended LSU in Baton Rouge. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II, and later returned to Bossier City, where he met and married Mary Olive Moore on Nov. 21, 1948. In 1957, Fred and Mary moved to Baton Rouge, where Fred worked at the Federal Bureau of Public Roads, later the Federal Highway Administration. He served in that office for 34 years, retiring as the administrative manager of the Baton Rouge FHWA office. One of Fred's life achievements was his stewardship and management of his family's property in Iberville Parish and the creation of the Jules A. Hebert Rental Corp. He faithfully served in various offices of the corporation following its inception in 1963. Fred enjoyed on-site management of the family property, and also enjoyed fishing in area lakes and in the marshy areas near Golden Meadow. Fred and Mary were active members of Goodwood Baptist Church and later of Broadmoor Baptist Church in Baton Rouge. Fred served as a deacon in both churches. In 2006, Fred and Mary moved to Cypress Glen Retirement Community in Greenville to be near their son and daughter-in-law, where they became members of Immanuel Baptist Church. Fred was a faithful Christian, a good provider for his family, a loving husband, brother and father, and a good friend to all who knew him. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Glenn L. Hebert, who was of Chicago. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Moore Hebert. Other survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Barbara Hebert, of Greenville; daughter, Marianne Hebert, of Baton Rouge; sister, Dorothy Hebert Wilson, of Bossier City; sister-in-law, Anne Foley Hebert, of Chicago; several nieces and nephews; four grandchildren, James Davis Hebert and his wife, Tammy, of Charlotte, N.C., Mary Hebert Dawson and her husband, Brian, of Abingdon, Va., Emilie Hebert Williams and her husband, Jamie, of Asheville, N.C., and Carissa Cervantez Weaver and her husband, Michael, of Rowlett, Texas; and four great-grandsons, Evan Josiah Dawson, Austin Davis Hebert, Blaine Christopher Dawson and Carter Andrew Williams. The family will receive friends at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., Friday, Sept. 16, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Broadmoor Baptist Church, 9755 Goodwood Blvd., at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, conducted by the Rev. Dr. George Haile. Interment will be in Greenoaks Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd. Memorials may be sent to the Broadmoor Baptist Church, 9755 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70815.
