

A native of Opelousas, LA and resident of Baton Rouge, he passed away on September 16, 2012 at the age of 90. He retired after 38 years of service as Secretary/Treasurer of Airtrol, Inc. He graduated from Opelousas High School in 1939 and attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now ULL) for three years prior to his call to serve in the military. He was a Class of 1947 graduate of LSU. A veteran of WWII, he served in the US Army Air Corps as an Aerial Radio Operator and Gunner, flying in 35 missions in the Central Pacific, 7th Air Force, 30th Bomb Group in B-24 Liberator Heavy Bombers. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific campaign medal with three Campaign Stars. Following this combat service, he served in the Ferrying Division of the Air TransportCommand as Aerial Radio Operator until his honorable discharge in November of 1945. He was a Charter member and Past President of the Audubon Kiwanis Club, member of Sherwood Forest Country Club, and member of the 30th Bomb Group Reunion Association. He is survived by a daughter, Peggy Guynn; one sister, Marjory Cummins; a brother, Robert Guynn and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Bertha S. Guynn; father and mother, Fred S.Guynn and Sue M. Guynn; and a brother, Richard O. Guynn. The family would like to especially thank the very dedicated caregivers who have been so wonderful through the years, Linda Jarreau, Johnny Day and Shelton Day. We would also like to thank the staff at Landmark of Baton Rouge for their care. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 10:00am with funeral service at 12noon, The Reverend Karen Gay officiating. Entombment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
