
"The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want." A retired ironworker and member of Ironworkers Local Union 623, he died at 11 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2009, at Baton Rouge Health Care. He was 85, a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Gramercy. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Tuesday, May 12, was from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation at St. Pius X Catholic Church from 1 p.m. Wednesday until Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Alec Sheldon, celebrant. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Park. Survived by his wife of 64 years, Glory M. Montz; three daughters, Sibyl Guidry, Doby Murphy and Gay Bergeron; six grandchildren, Dean and Kelly Vicknair, Troy Wofford, Mickey Guidry, Dawn Todd and Tiah Alphonso; five stepgrandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Montz and Polmere Louque Montz; son, Gerard J. Montz; brother, Wallace Montz Sr.; nephew, Wallace Montz; and grandchild, Kama Bergeron. Pallbearers will be Joe Bergeron, Russell Guidry, Troy Wofford, Mickey Guidry, Raymond Alphonso and Matt Todd. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. The family would like to thank the staff of Skilled Care Nursing Unit at Lane Memorial Medical Center, the staff at Baton Rouge Health Care and the staff of Hospice in His Care.
