Genevia "Gene" Theresa Laborde Juneau, Dec. 12, 1925 - June 12, 2014, has been reunited in heaven with her loving husband, Murray. A long-time resident of Baton Rouge, native of Bordelonville and a lifelong lover of all things Louisiana, Gene moved to Morgan Hill, CA, in January of 2012 to be with her daughter, Sharon. Gene, as Valedictorian of her high school, applied her academic excellence to her professional career as a bookkeeper, working for Montgomery Ward in Baton Rouge for more than 25 years. However, her most important vocation in life was as a mother, and as a grandmother. She tirelessly supported her children in all school and community endeavors. A Girl Scout Leader, a community theater advocate and costume seamstress, cafeteria volunteer, church volunteer, field trip chaperone and so many other service roles defined Gene's loving support for her children, offering them a lifelong example of a life well lived in family service. The loss of her husband, Murray, in 1973, left Gene a widow at far too young an age. She turned her energy to the future and relished her new role as grandmother, or the first true "Gaga", as she was known by her granddaughters. Gene was a staunch LSU purple and gold supporter - especially basketball! Gene is survived by her daughter, Sharon Juneau Daroca, husband Kevin, of Morgan Hill, CA; son Douglas Paul Juneau and his fiancée Sarah Babin, of Plaquemine; daughter Norma Jean Juneau, of Gulf Breeze, FL; and her former son-in-law, Joel Castello of Midland, TX. Gene has 3 granddaughters - Caroline, Marissa and Afton, and 3 great-grandchildren - Lucas, Vivienne and Calvin. Gene is also survived by her remaining siblings, Elliot and Cheryl Laborde of Baton Rouge, Ruth Reech of Moreauville, and Buven and Florida Laborde of Baton Rouge. Visitation (10 AM) and Memorial Services (12 Noon) will be held on Saturday, June 21, at Green Oaks Funeral Home, Baton Rouge. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens in Baton Rouge.
