Although we love him dearly, we could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands laid to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us that he only takes the best. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for Gene Mason on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 3:00 pm at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Goudeau, LA with Fr. Bartholomew Ibe officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Melancon Funeral Home, Bunkie. The family requests that visitation be held on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East - 11000 Florida Blvd. - Baton Rouge, LA 70815 from 5 pm - 8 pm and on Friday, July 22, 2016 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Goudeau, LA from 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm. Gene Mason, a native of Baton Rouge, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at the age of 76. Gene was a veteran of the US Navy and retired from Ciba Geigy. Gene was a loving husband and father. He loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Pauline Harris Mason; his two daughters, Tammy Landry and husband, Warren and Donis Simmons and husband, Mike; a niece, Sissy Schroder; his three grandchildren, Jacob Murphy and wife, Michele, Logan Ortlieb and wife, Xiomora and Katie Kennedy and husband, Sean and two great grandchildren, Emma and J.J. Murphy.
