

"Genevieve Marie LeBlanc Garrett, born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Arthur Leon LeBlanc, Sr. and Aline Mire LeBlanc on April 15, 1925, died February 20, 2017 at her home in Baton Rouge. Her children recall her promise, "I'll be here until the Lord takes my breath away." She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Fritz Albert Garrett, Jr., her parents, four brothers and one sister. The fourth of ten children, Genie is survived by sisters Marjorie Mautner and Rosemary Tuminello, brothers Clifton LeBlanc and F. Donald LeBlanc, sons Lane Frederic Garrett and his wife Rebecca, Dennis Albert Garrett and his wife Patricia, Randal Charles Garrett and his wife Virginia, Gregg William Garrett and his wife Tracie, and by her devoted daughter, Annette Aline Garrett Franklin and her husband Milton, grandchildren Byron , Renee, Marceline, Helen, Jean, Joseph, Marie, Fred, Georgi, Hunter, Sage, Randall, Gerard, Garrett and Allison, great-grandchildren Raechel, Joshua, Sarah, Emily, Zachary, Charles, Noah, Breanne, Tyler, Charleigh, Camille and Calvin. A gentle daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Genie faithfully reflected the joy of her Lord Jesus, often declaring, "God is good all the time; all the time God is good." She was a graduate of Istrouma High School, and enjoyed weekend camping trips with her family. She worked briefly in business, sales and as a hospital "Pink Lady" volunteer. In addition, she served in the Altar Society of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and as a Eucharistic Minister. Genie was a Third Order Franciscan and was active in numerous church committees and in the Catholic Charismatic movement. Her most cherished verse was John 11:25-26, "Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die'." In lieu of flowers, please make a charitable donation of your choice. Visitation will occur in Baton Rouge at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11441 Goodwood Boulevard, commencing at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 24th, and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Father Eddie Martin at noon. Interment to follow at the St. George Catholic Church cemetery, 7808 St. George Drive.
