
George A. Daniels, 77, of Baton Rouge and native of Smith Center, Kan., passed away Saturday, July 30, 2011, at Ochsner Medical Center. There will be a visitation Wednesday, Aug. 3, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St. A funeral service will take place Thursday, Aug. 4, at The First United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge, 930 North Blvd., at 11 a.m. Interment will occur at a later date in the family plot in Athol, Kan. George was born in rural Smith County, Kan., to John A. and Lizzie Martin Daniels. George attended Kansas University, graduating in 1955 with a degree in chemical engineering. He earned his M.S. in chemical engineering from LSU in 1963. George went to work for the Ethyl Corp. as an engineer in 1955 and retired in 2009. George's life centered on his work but he found time for other interests, including bridge and running. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Baton Rouge for many years. He taught an adult Sunday school class, served on the church board and cherished memories of the "Half Past Niners" Sunday night singles group. He was active in the local section of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and held offices in various professional organizations. He is survived by a brother, Joe A. Daniels and wife Hildegard, of Virginia Beach, Va.; sister, Marian Montee and husband Dean, of Shawnee, Kan.; and niece and two nephews. George had requested that any memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, 930 North Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70802.
