

Gerald Ricord “Hoot” Didier, Sr., beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Monday, February 28, 2022. He was a retired executive from Blue Cross Blue Shield and had many achievements during his lifetime. He graduated from Catholic High School in Baton Rouge and Southwestern Louisiana Institute in Lafayette. He was drafted early in his career by the Brooklyn Dodgers and was inducted into the Louisiana Athletics Hall of Fame in baseball and basketball. He is survived by his wife, Marti Blasco Didier; daughter, Connie Caballero (Steve); stepson, Bernard L. Malone III; stepdaughters, Cindy Hunt (Jerry) and Elizabeth Troia (Carl). He was proud to be called “Pops” by his 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert I. Didier, Sr. and Edith Pearl Pilcher Didier; first wife, Ann Chenault Didier; sons, Duane A. Didier and Gerald R. Didier, Jr.; daughter, Diane Dawson; and brothers, Mel, Robert, Clyde, Raymond, and Pearce. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 7, 2022 from 10:00 am until a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 2250 Main St., Baton Rouge, LA. Interment will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Ryan Didier, Christopher Caballero, Ashton Fonseca, Carl G. Troia, Jr., Jacob Hunt, and James Wohlert. Honorary Pallbearers are Tim Hunt, Paul Hidalgo, Rusty Pesson, and Gerard Ruth. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Gerald’s name to the American Cancer Society to further ovarian cancer research, and to Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.
