Harold Mack Lewis was born on July 28, 1929 in Phoenix, Louisiana to Amy Burleson and Mack Lewis. After completing high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1948. At a time when segregation was prevalent, Harold began basic training in an all-black unit. In 1954 he was selected for assignment to a team working with the first flight simulator, and worked to install the C-124C Flight Simulator: a 4 engine cargo airplane that was used to train Aircraft Performance Engineers. Harold met and married his one true love Maudie Marine Burton in October 1950. From their union, three (3) children were born: Angela Renee, Debra Lynn, and Patricia Gayle. Harold served his country diligently and with pride for 27 years, retiring in 1975. After retiring, Harold started his own business as a contractor for home repairs.
Harold and Maudie spent majority of their retirement time traveling in their motor home, becoming active members in the Just Us Motor Home Club. Their travels took them all over the continental United States where they met many life-long friends.
Harold was an active member of the Rotary Club in Austin, TX for over 15 years, serving faithfully during that time. For his dedication and service, he was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow Award.
