

Harvey Thomas Monson, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Friday, September 9, 2016 at the age of 73 surrounded by his family and friends at Ochsner of Baton Rouge. He retired from LA DOTD after over 35 years of service as a highway designer and a land surveyor. Harvey was a talented saxophone player and a lifetime member of both the Van Broussard and the Bayou Boogie Band and Primetime Express. Harvey is a member of the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame. Harvey was a past Grandmaster for the Baton Rouge Masonic Lodge and a member of the Denham Springs Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed tournament fishing, his GTO, cooking, driving his lawnmower, and spending his time as a loving Paw Paw. He laughed harder than anybody EVER! Harvey is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Margaret Caldwell Monson; children, Dodie Altazan and husband, Russell, Rhett Monson and his husband, Michael Blomsterberg, Jarred Monson, Jason Phillips and wife, Kristi, Dallas Phillips and wife, Tammy, Brandy Roberts and husband, Johnny; grandchildren, Kayleigh Jones and husband, John, Aaron Altazan, Jordan Phillips, Jacob Phillips, and Brandon Phillips; brother, Michael Monson and his wife, Pat; and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, John and Roberta Monson. A Celebration of Life for Harvey will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Thursday, September 15, 2016 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a memorial service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Association or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
