

Henrietta Stanga Nesom, RN, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2023 at the age of 97. She was born on Nov 3rd 1926 in Independence, LA, grew up in New Orleans, and was a longtime resident of Baton Rouge. She was married to the late Maj. John W. Nesom, retired from Louisiana State Police. Henrietta was a 1947 graduate of Charity Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans. After a long career at Stanocola Medical Clinic in Baton Rouge, she retired in 1989. She was dedicated to her patients and spent many hours doing private duty nursing. She was a force of nature that could hardly be contained. She walked fast, stayed busy and loved to talk and share family stories. Growing up during the Depression, she learned to be frugal and knew the value of hard work. She was known in her family to fix anything with her inventive and imaginative style. Sharp and quick witted, she rarely held back an opinion. She was gracious in service to others. When it came to her family and friends she was fiercely protective. In her senior living years, she made sure new residents felt welcomed and continued her caring ways helping out anyone who needed her. She was a member of Florida Blvd. Baptist Church, and served in Masonic related organizations as Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and Past President of the Daughters of the Oasis. She is survived by her son Mikel Lee Nesom (Beth), grandchildren Erin N. Jackson (Jay), Andrew M. Nesom (Courtney), and Anna K. Nesom. Her great grandson, James Luke Jackson, brought her the greatest joy in her last years. She was extremely proud of her family. She was proceeded in death by her husband, John William Nesom, parents Leslie Emile Stanga, Sr., Thelma Eloise Wall, siblings Lois Morlier, Leslie E. Stanga Jr., Lemuel (Pete) Stanga, and Louis V. Stanga. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 13th at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East Chapel, 11000 Florida Blvd. in Baton Rouge with a reception to follow. Interment will be in Bluff Creek Cemetery in Clinton, LA. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Shriners Hospitals for Children (lovetotherescue.org).
