Herbert Thomas Sands

Herbert Thomas Sands, 88, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana passed away of Alzheimer’s on December 23, 3017 in Orange Park, Florida. He was born on June 6, 1929 in Ironton Ohio, son of the late Charles Thomas Sands and Nancy Louise Moore Sands. Herb was a retired Plant Manager and HR Manager with Allied Chemical Company and Arcadian Chemical Company in South Point, Ohio and Gonzales, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of more than 60 years, Ruby Joan Sands. He was also preceded by Stepfather Ben F. Imes of Ironton, Ohio, brother Donald Allan “Blondie” Sands of South Point, Ohio and brother Russ Sands of Mansfield, Ohio. He is survived by brother Bennie Imes of Ironton, Ohio and was a dedicated and loving father to surviving son Charles Thomas Sands (Deborah Rowell Sands) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and daughter Debra Joan Traywick (Byron Traywick) of Fleming Island, Florida. He was affectionately known as “Papaw” to surviving grandchildren including Jason Patrick Sands of New York City, Dr. Thomas Trey Sands (Dr. Carin Sanchez) of Metairie, Louisiana, Benjamin David Traywick of Baton Rouge, La., Jonathan Traywick (Kaley Traywick) of Fleming Island, Florida, Hannah Traywick Patterson (Doug Patterson) of Green Cove Springs, Florida. Great grandchildren include Zachary Thomas Sands, Tyler Christian Sands and Nathan Alexander Sands of Metairie, Louisiana.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, December 29, 2017 at the Greenoaks Funeral Home (9595 Florida Blvd. in Baton Rouge, Louisiana). Burial will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
