

Inez McGhee Townsend died Wednesday, August 5th at the Crossing at the age of 94 surrounded by family, friends, and love. She was born on April 16, 1921 in Bayou Chicot, LA to Merida and Daisy McGhee. She was the valedictorian of Ville Platte High School and an honor graduate of LA Normal School. She had a brief career as a teacher. She then meet and married the love of her life, Eldrege Benjamin (Skeeter) Townsend, to whom she was married for 47 years. She was a stay home mom for many years before returning to work as the secretary of Northdale Elementary School and then at the central office of EBR Parish School Board. Inez was known for her love of family, faith, friends and flowers. Even when she was ill, she would still remember her family and friends with thank you notes, birthday and Christmas cards. Inez was a long standing member of Ingleside United Methodist Church where she was honored by a lifetime membership in the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Pollard Planters and a Purple Jacket while attending NSU. Inez was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister Hazel Sledge. She is survived by her sister Ruth Cornell, a son Rev. Robert (Bob) Townsend and his wife Mickie of Statesboro, GA and daughters Wanda Townsend and Patricia (Ki) Addison and her husband David of Baton Rouge. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren who each had a special endearing name for her. Inez had many special people in her life who she adopted as her own including Mickey, Brenda and Tricia Stringfield, Patricia Porter, John and Linda Matessino and Gary Love. Visiting will be at Ingleside UMC from 9am-11am on Saturday, August 8 with services at 11am. Interment will be at Greenoaks Cemetary at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ingleside UMC.
