Born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Inger loved days at the beach, the joy and tradition of Mardi Gras, and was known as the true “hostess with the mostest,” always welcoming family and friends with open arms. She shared a special bond with her dog, Peanut, who was her constant companion.
Inger had a lifelong love of horses and achieved remarkable success in competitive riding. She was especially proud of her horse, Bunky’s Major, with whom she earned first place in the nation in Pole Bending and third place in the nation in Barrel Racing.
She is survived by her sons, Derrick Payne (Hans de Guzman) and Garret Payne (Renee); her four cherished grandchildren, Saige, Ethan, Emmett, and Crews; her mother, Sylvia Mallett; her sisters, Jill Mallett Busche and Mona Mallett Tobias; her brother, Jay Mallett; and many beloved nieces and nephews—too numerous to list, but deeply loved.
Inger was preceded in death by her son, Taylor Payne, beside whom she will be laid to rest; her sisters, Mindy Mallett and Kim Mallett; and her father, J.L. Mallett.
A visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9559 Florida Boulevard, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
