Trusting in God's promise, "The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:23b), our precious "Pa Cox" entered Heaven on December 16, 2012. Ira LeRoy Cox was born on February 15, 1925, to Mr. and Mrs. George Ira Cox. He was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge. He served in the 15th Air Force, based in Foggia, Italy, in WWII as a radio operator and gunner in a B-17. He was shot down and captured on his 13th mission. Shortly after his release as a prisoner of war in Germany, he married the love of his life, Charlene Dorman Cox, "Mama Charlie". They were married 67 years, having first met in the third grade. He retired from Paxon Polymer in 1991, after 33 years of service. He was an area supervisor when he retired. He is survived by his wife, Charlene, four children: Susan Fontenot, Randy Cox (Becky), Kim Baker (Steve), Tim Cox (Jonna), ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Katie Reed and Helen Flowers, and brother Morris Cox, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Floyd, Clarence, and Henry Cox, one sister, Myrtle Morgan, and great-grandson Bryson Fontenot. As a couple, Pa Cox and Mama Charlie's greatest earthly desire was to fulfill the words of II Timothy 3:15 in regard to their children and grandchildren...."From infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus". He also desired for their home and lives to be used to win others to faith in Christ. Over the years, he opened his home to many who needed a temporary place to stay. Pa Cox was also known for being able to fix anything, and he enjoyed using his skills and talents to help others. Pa Cox was a founding member of Community Bible Church of Baton Rouge. Our family is so thankful for 87 years in which we were able to enjoy the wit, kind nature, and love that Pa Cox conveyed to us daily. We are also grateful to Ms. Billie Seaberry for the loving and tender care she gave Pa over the past several years. The other siblings and family members are also extremely appreciative of our sister, Susan, for her unselfish devotion to dad during his lengthy illness. While Pa Cox will be greatly missed, we rejoice that he is celebrating with his Heavenly Father and loved ones who preceded him in death. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, December 19 at Community Bible Church, 8354 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA starting at 9:00 am until religious service at 11am. Dr. Steve Foster will conduct the funeral service. Burial will follow at Redwood Cemetery, 5182 Hwy 412 E, Slaughter, LA.
