

J. Peyton Parker, Jr. passed away peacefully on January 15, 2024 at the age of 94. He was born on October 29,1929 in Monroe, LA. He is survived by his daughter Sharon Talley and her husband Patrick, his daughter Deborah Gibbs and her husband, Vance, and his son Peyton R. Parker and his wife, Judi. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Elisa Gibbs Morgan (Adam), Parker Gibbs (Natalie), Martha Gibbs Gottwald (Daniel), Aaron Parker (Rachael), Jesse Parker Mensinger (Todd), Sarah Ilene Talley, Trey Talley (Margaret), and Peyton Talley. He is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved and cherished wife of 52 years, Ilene Byrne Parker, and his beloved daughter, Eleanor Celeste Parker. Peyton served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany for 3 years, providing a trove of stories for the rest of his life. He loved the army and his years of service. Peyton attended LSU and LSU Law School, practicing law in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for 60 years. He loved the law and the practice of law. He was the consummate gentlemen in the practice of law, and in every other aspect of his life. He loved hunting, horses, fishing, tennis, reading, and so much more. He loved life. His life was defined by faith, family, and friends. Faith was everything to Peyton. He was a devoted retreatant at Manresa for over 60 years. He loved his Church, Our Lady of Mercy, and his fellow parishioners. His loved his family. He was dearly devoted to his wife Ilene. His love for his children was boundless. He was a wonderful father and taught his children to love God, to fish, hunt, ride horses, and read books. He treasured his many friends. In recent years, he loved his breakfasts at the Waffle House with his dear friend Frank, his ride to mass each Sunday with George and Adrienne, the pilates ladies class at the Bocage gym, his Tuesday poker group, and lunch with his dear friends Art and Janice. He loved especially his caregivers and friends, Betty Alex and Linda Rogers, who listened to his stories and made perfect eggs. Peyton will be remembered for his faith, his curtesy, his stories, charm, and the twinkle in his blue eyes. He leaves behind many cherished memories for his surviving family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Friday, January 19, 2024 at 1:00 P.M.
