He is preceded in death by his parents Jack and Ruby Haynes. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Haynes, daughter Aimee Haynes (Michael Noonan), son Peter Haynes (Doris Ding), and two grandchildren Sarah Haynes and Olivia Haynes. He is survived by his brothers and sisters Harold Haynes, Ronald Haynes, Elaine Lawson, Larry Haynes, and Paula Mason.
He received degrees in landscape architecture from Louisiana State University and the University of Michigan. He served in the Air Force for several years. He taught landscape architecture at the University of Georgia and LSU. He served as associate dean and acting dean for the LSU College of Design, where was instrumental in establishing the CADGIS lab and served as its director for many years.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at 3:00-5:00 on August 16, 2025 at the Rabenhorst Funeral Home East on Florida Boulevard.
