Jacqueline Guidry O’Quinn

Jacqueline “Jackie” Guidry O’Quinn, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 67 years, Frank Morat O’Quinn. They were married on January 10, 1952, and together they raised eight children: Mary Werk (Ingo), Frank J. “Butch” (Beth), Michael (Anne), Patrick (Lillie), Elizabeth “Lizette” Kummrow (Jack), Robert (Dawn), Lucie Brant (Stan), and Melanie Samaha (Brent). Jackie was preceded in death by parents Elvin Guidry and Clothilde Thevenet Guidry; brother Charles “Buddy” Guidry and sister-in-law Geraldine “Dee” Roy Guidry; brothers-in-law James “Jimmy” O’Quinn, Leonard “Lenny” Robichaux and Bruce Sheldon; and by two infant grandchildren. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Margaret Ann Sheldon and Frances Corrine Robichaux; and by two brothers-in-law, Ed “Boothie” O’Quinn (Robyn) and Milton David O'Quinn (Theresa). “Mama O,” as she was known to her grandchildren, is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. O’Quinn was born on July 26, 1931, in Breaux Bridge, LA. She moved to Baton Rouge and graduated as valedictorian from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1948. She attended Louisiana State University from 1948 to 1952, earning a bachelor of science in education. She spent the next 20 years raising her family and participating in volunteer work while traveling to various military posts as the wife of an officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. They settled in Baton Rouge, where for the next 40-plus years she continued to do volunteer work with numerous organizations in many capacities: Girl Scouts, Campus Club, L’Assemblée Française, PEO chapter K, Alpha Xi Delta sorority, W.A.L.E.S. (Women’s Auxiliary to the Louisiana Engineering Society), KC3743 Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters, Telebelles, St. Jude Choir, and St. Joseph’s Academy archives. An avid bridge player, Jackie was involved in two bridge groups, one of which lasted over 40 years. Jackie and Frank worked together as compilers and publishers of the genealogy book Thevenets of St. Martin Parish. Jackie was honored by St. Joseph’s Academy as a Distinguished Graduate in 2001 and an Outstanding Alumnae Honoree in 2012. Jackie was a life-long member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at St. Jude Catholic Church, 9150 Highland Rd, on Saturday, December 10, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and a funeral Mass following at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Greenoaks Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd., in Baton Rouge.
